Best Fundamental of Metal Books for Both Beginners and Experts

Posted on September 26, 2021September 25, 2021 by e5h02

Whether you are an experienced machinist who already has an established business like precision machining malaysia or a machine operator just starting a new profession, a good book may go a long way towards improving your knowledge of the components, pieces and procedures involved in the machining industry.

This is the list of must-have books for anybody who wants to learn the fundamentals of metalwork up to the point of precision machining or for anyone interested in metalworking of any kind. We have set out our suggestions for all ability levels and even included some excellent options for subjects like CAD.

Best Beginner Machining Book

Machining Fundamentals

It’s not exactly CNC for dummies, but Machining Fundamentals is definitely the most beginning friendly book while also diving in detail on the topic.

If you take a machining course, this is likely the textbook that will be used. It covers everything from manual machining to CNC and everything in between. This textbook does a fantastic job of not presuming you have prior knowledge and instead covers all the fundamentals and then some in an easy-to-understand approach.

One of the greatest things about this book is that there are a lot of images to illustrate what is being taught. There is no better beginner’s book for both manual and CNC machining.

Best Machinist Reference Book

Machinery’s Handbook

This is the book by which all other references are evaluated. Machinery’s Handbook which is frequently referred to as “the bible of mechanical industries” is the classic reference for all machining.

This is not a book for amateurs, but instead for someone who already has some understanding of machining. Every machine shop should and presumably already does have a copy or two lying around. Each new edition continues to add fresh and relevant material to an already vast collection of essential information.

Don’t be hesitant to pick up an earlier version if you can locate it secondhand or cheaper. The difference between one edition isn’t that huge. Just avoid a copy that is five editions out of date. Every machinist should have a copy of this book ready with them.

Best Beginner CNC Book

Machining and CNC Technology

Machining and CNC Technology is a great overall machining book comparable to Machining Fundamentals.

Where this book shines is in giving a good introduction to CNC related subjects. Too frequently the actual functioning and setup of the equipment are not given sufficient coverage. This book offers readers extensive treatment along with many other CNC topics.

Machining and CNC Technology is another textbook that is so comprehensive that is frequently used for instruction in machine tool courses.

Best CNC Programming Book

CNC Programming Handbook

Again, not a book for amateurs. The CNC Programming Handbook by Peter Smid covers in detail on just about every CNC programming related subject. Everything is addressed and in excellent depth. Personally, this isn’t the sort of book I would read straight through. Instead, I suggest utilising it as a CNC version of the Machinery’s Handbook.

The CNC Programming Handbook is a wonderful complete desk reference. You won’t need it on a daily basis but when you come across a subject that you don’t understand, it will be an essential resource.

Best Beginner CAD Book

Fusion 360 for Makers

If you are just starting with CAD, then in all probability you will be working with Fusion 360. Fusion 360 is a free (for home use) piece of CAD software from Autodesk, creators of Inventor. Inventor is one of the most common pieces of drawing software used in machine shops across the globe.

Learning Fusion 360 will teach you abilities which will transfer to other more sophisticated pieces of software. However, you should take note that Fusion 360 is no slouch and will enable you to build some fairly sophisticated widgets and doodads if you take the time to master it.

Fusion 360 for Makers is a fantastic starting place for beginners to learn the fundamentals and become familiar with the programme.

Conclusion

Thanks for checking out our list of the top machining and CNC books. Hopefully they assist you in adding to your physical library.
